Running

I happended to catch a segment on Sportscenter today while eating lunch on a high school senior who had cerebral paley and ran cross country. Cool story. Despite his uncoordinated stride this guy was determined and compeditive as ever. Even though he finished the 5k races in about 40-45 min (normal's around 20), he finished...often with his teammates returning to finish with him and pick him up when he fell. It was humbling to watch...the simple ability to run, often taken for granted.

It pulled out the coaching itch once again. His family first talked about the other sports that would let him be on the team if he was happy on the bench or as the water boy. Then he found cross country. (Swimming would've been great too). How exciting would it to be a coach with special needs kids...see them come alive as they competed and grew...and see the rest of the team learn from them and rally around them. someday...
